Travel Vaccinations & Medications

When you travel abroad, you often need additional vaccinations or medications to protect yourself from infections which pose a threat in other parts of the world.
Our expert doctors and pharmacists will check which vaccinations or medications you need to help you prepare for your trip.

Travel Vaccinations

Cholera Vaccination

Cholera is a bacterial infection that can cause severe diarrhoea. It isn’t found in the UK, but there’s a small risk of catching it if you’re travelling to or through certain parts of the world.

Japanese Encephalitis Vaccination

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is a viral infection of the brain transmitted to humans by mosquitoes in parts of Asia and the Western Pacific.

Rabies Vaccination

Rabies is a dangerous viral infection endemic to many countries. The rabies vaccination is used to prevent an infection prior to travelling to a high risk area.

Tick-borne Encephalitis Vaccination

Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection endemic to many European countries. If you are planning to stay in an area with a high occurrence of infected ticks, a TBE vaccination is the safest way of avoiding the infection. It is particularly relevant if you are planning to spend a lot of time outdoors.

Typhoid Vaccination

Typhoid fever is a highly contagious and potentially lethal disease, which spreads via contaminated foods and water. As typhoid bacteria are primarily found in faeces, the infection is particularly common in regions with poor sanitation.

Travel Medications

Malaria (Doxyclycline)

Malaria is endemic to over 100 countries. It can cause severe symptoms, such as a high fever, digestive problems, muscle pain and convulsions. If left untreated, it can be fatal.

Doxycycline is suitable for malaria in all parts of the world and available at a lower cost than Malarone.

Malaria (Malarone)

Malaria is endemic to over 100 countries. It can cause severe symptoms, such as a high fever, digestive problems, muscle pain and convulsions. If left untreated, it can be fatal.

Malarone costs more than the other antimalarials but is suitable for malaria prevention in all countries, including those where the parasite has developed a resistance to other antimalarials.

Hepatitis A & B Vaccination

The combined vaccination protects against both Hepatitis A and B

Travellers’ Diarrhoea Tablets

Travellers’ diarrhoea is a condition which commonly affects travellers to certain high risk countries in Africa, Asia, and South America. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria, and protozoa, and is usually transmitted via contaminated foods and water.
